StarkNet Edu Newsletter - Issue #6
Today's edition is all about StarkNetCC, a two-day event focused on StarkNet that took place on Oct 31st and Nov 1st in Lisbon. We have selected the talks that have the highest educational value to help you on your journey to mastering our rollup technology.
Be aware that the StarkNetCC team is still in the process of editing the videos from the conference so, in the meantime, we'll be sharing timestamped links to the live stream recording.
Surveying StarkNet's Unique Features
David Barreto (@barretodavid), a developer advocate from StarkWare, provides a high-level overview of all the features that make StarkNet different from Ethereum and other rollups.
David reviews StarkNet's architecture, how computational integrity is achieved, a comparison of STARKs vs. SNARKs, how cross-layer messaging works and how it can be used to create trustless bridges, the benefits of account abstraction, Cairo's features and more.
The Future of On-Chain Games
This panel discussion about the present and future of web3 games had some of the brightest minds in crypto: @guiltygyoza from Topology, @lordOfAFew from Realms, Thomas Marchand (@Th0rgal_) from Eykar, Gabe Ruditch (@gabe_rudich) from Cartridge and Sylve Chevet (@sylvechv) from Briq.
Paraphrasing Sylve on why web3 games haven't found their place yet: "when the film was invented movies used to look like theater because that's all we knew. It was only after getting used to this new medium that cinematography was born". The panelists also discuss why “hardness” might be the defining factor that would make web3 games fundamentally different from their web2 counterparts.
It's Over 9000
Abdel (@dimahledba) from StarkWare and Elias Tazartes (@ETazou) from Theodo present Kakarot, a ZK-EVM built on top of Cairo. Watch the talk to learn where Kakarot fits in Vitalik's classification of ZK-EVMs, how it was developed, and the progress the team has made so far in supporting Ethereum opcodes.
UX as the Most Important Security Feature
Braavos has been busy working on improving its StarkNet wallet. Mottie Lavie (@mottylen) reveals how Braavos is now leveraging the dedicated hardware in your device to securely create, store and use private keys to sign transactions.
As a bonus, we get to learn how Apple's secure enclave works to isolate and protect its cryptographic hardware from the rest of the system and how by relying on it we get an enormous boost in security for our wallets.
StarkNet Roadmap
Tom Brand (@bbrandtom), the product lead at StarkWare, gives us a sneak peek into the future of StarkNet by sharing how the company is planning to improve the performance of the network. Watch the video to learn where the bottleneck is and what the priorities are for the next 6 months of development.
